BRAZILIAN ROSEWOOD

Brazilian Rosewood (Dalgergia nigra) is considered the queen of woods for the excellence of its balanced, deep and resonant sound. The beauty of its grain and its dark colour.

The great master guitar builders have been using this wood assiduously for their guitars since the 19th century.

Coinciding with our 20th anniversary, we put at your disposal our latest stock.

Back and sides sets, fingerboards and other pieces for instruments, will be some of the items you will find in our new category "Brazilian Rosewood" in the Woodstock section.

Its age and natural seasoning make its acoustics a guarantee of good sound.

All these products are perfectly calibrated to the measurements specified in the descriptions of each item. All of them are naturally dried and ready for use.

The commercialisation of Brazilian Rosewood is regulated by the CITES convention, therefore, before purchasing Dalbergia nigra it is important to take into account a series of factors.

How do I purchase a Rio Rosewood product from Madinter?

Within the Woodstock section, you will find the category "Brazilian Rosewood" where you can choose from a wide selection of unique products with excellent quality photographs.

Once an order of Brazilian Rosewood (Dalbergia nigra) has been confirmed we will apply for the necessary CITES permit.  No matter where in the world the wood is to be sent to, a Spanish CITES permit is required, as this species is listed in Appendix I / Annex A of CITES.

It usually takes between 7 and 14 days to be submitted.  After we receive it, we will send you a scanned copy and the original will be attached to the box carrying your order.

It is very important that you keep your permit for your records.

For those orders shipped to within the EU no further certificate is required.  However, as Dalbergia nigra is listed in Appendix I / Annex A of CITES, for orders shipped to outside of the EU the importer must apply for a CITES Import Permit in the country of destination.  For further information please contact your local CITES authority.

Once the wood has been transformed into an instrument (or should you resell the wood in the same form you purchased it) the same process must be carried out.  You must apply for a CITES permit to sell your Brazilian Rosewood, whether it be transformed or not, and if it is to be exported the receiver must apply for a CITES Import Permit.

There is an extra advantage purchasing Brazilian Rosewood from Madinter:

An important reason to purchase Brazilian Rosewood from Madinter, is that a species, such as Dalbergia nigra, listed in Appendix I / Annex A of CITES can only enter into the EU if it was in the EU when it was listed.

Madinter’s Brazilian Rosewood was in Spain in 1992, when the species was listed.  This means that the wood can be sent to the US, for example, made into a guitar, and re-enter the EU.

On the other hand, a guitar made with Brazilian Rosewood that was not in the EU in 1992 cannot enter the EU.
